It has been a few days since I reached Banyumas... If you ever follow my previous post, and understand it, then you know the reason why I am here.
Psychiatry ward in Banyumas is really different from Sardjito's. Back in Sardjito, there are more than 10 doctors, more than 10 residents, more than 10 koas, and LESS than 10 patients, and the clinic is always empty. Here, there are around 100 or more patients in the ward, and the clinic is busy, and only 2 doctors with 4 of us.
Banyumas is damn hot. Everyday I am soaked wet. But here is damn relax and free. Monday to Thursday 7am to 2pm, Friday 7am to 11.00am, and Saturday 7am to 12.30pm. That was what I was told. In truth, when we have nothing else to do, Dr Basiran will say "Ayuk pulang!" And his favourite quote, "Yang penting di sini, jangan stress, santai aja."
Patients here are funny. But the critical patients... Scary. And today I just did ECT on a patient. Electroconvulsive therapy is manually-induced convulsion on patient by using electric. It is... scary. The patient will get tonic clonic seizure once he/she is electrified, and look as though he/she is dying... for a moment.
Somehow I enjoy talking and listening to the patients, as long as they are under control. Just play along, and it will be fun. Although sometimes they might over the limit a bit.
Schizophrenia is not that scary afterall, IF they are under control. So the important thing is, make sure schizophrenic persons have regular medication. Then, just chill, they are normal.
