Read, Memorize, Study

When people are having pre-exam syndrome (check my older post about pre-exam syndrome for more information), the most popular words used would be STUDY.

But how many people really study out there? Not all. There are some people who read, some people who memorize, and some other who study. Based on my experience here in medical school, although I never do a research or survey on this, I think most people are actually MEMORIZING and not studying, and followed by READING and lastly STUDYING.

I would like to start off with the laziest of all - READ.

Reading means glance through, like someone reading newspaper or novel. Whatever read is read, and never read again although it might not be understood yet. Sometimes the person may repeat reading it if he/she finds it interesting.

Memorizing, I can say it is "read until you remember". It is very torturing to memorize so much stuff. There are a lot of ways to actually memorize something. Some people would use some familiar things to relate to the topic and then make it easier to memorize. Some people would just read the lectures 1000000 times until they can tell you every sentence in the lecture notes.

Studying is the best way, and the correct way I personally think, to be a student. People who really study are those who will do their own research when they read something they don't understand, am I right? Those research may be sources from books, internet or by asking a more knowledgeable persons.

So, why do people choose to use STUDY in conversation? Because it is the best among these. It is seldom to see people asking each other "Have you memorized the lectures?" "Have you read the lectures?" , but instead "Have you studied?" will be used.
